My Favorite!!!   Okaloosa Island…I love our little island.

#1. Because it IS an island.

#2. This is where we have our cute and colorful condo.

#3. The island is out of the crazy traffic and busyness of Destin.

If you are clueless as to where or what is Okaloosa Island, that’s okay….most people are.  You probably don’t know much about it because if you blink, you’ll miss this tiny barrier island.  But trust me when I say you will LOVE this little jewel.  “Ohhhh” you say, “Yes, I have been on the island I just didn’t know it”.  Exactly.  So open your eyes next time because I am about to tell you what you are missing!!A wee bit about it: Okaloosa Island is a beautiful island connecting the cities of Destin to Fort Walton Beach.  There are 4 miles of natural beach and bay coastline on one side and sheer fun on the other side of the island with The Boardwalk, Gulfarium, and recreational water rentals.  Okaloosa Island is part of the famous Emerald Coast known for its clear emerald green waters. You might think you are in the Carribean except for the fact that our sand is so white and soft it could easily be mistaken for flour. More than 60% of the beaches are protected by Florida law including 4 miles of Okaloosa Island.Okaloosa-Island-sign

Y’all know who you are and we love you! Here’s my fav about the beachside: I love that fact that I have about 4 miles of completely UNDEVELOPED COASTLINE both Beach (and Bayside) to enjoy! It’s like old Florida with big white sand dunes, sea oats, and empty coastline (key word “empty” here).  I can take walks and just breathe without seeing a soul.  Walking along the crystal emerald water and shell searching with just the sound of crashing waves is all I want to hear sometimes!

This gorgeous sunset was taken on Christmas Day looking at the fishing pier on the island.  God’s beautiful canvas.

And the bayside: I also love the other side of the island which is the bayside or Choctawhatchee Bay. The bay is wonderful because the water is very shallow for many yards out.  When the ocean is rough or full of seaweed, I like to take my little boy to the bay. He loves to search for hermit crabs which are easy and fun to find.  You still have a sandy beach and the water is calm.  It’s also a great spot to watch sting rays, fish, kite boarders, or sometimes dolphin.
